For Cambry, who sings prettier than a Disney Princess, mother to 3 top notch kids and artist extraordinaire (among other things). You have traveled with 3 kids and an engineer. You get it.
This morning we hit the ground running for Piza! Curtis and I have few things in common but luckily our energy level is one of them. We left a rainy Florence in our rear view and made the hour trek to Piza.
We got to Piza and it was still raining! You can't park anywhere near the tower. You have to pay for parking in a lot and then walk inside the walled city where there is a big Cathedral and the tower. Curtis acted completely confused when I asked if we were really going to get out and go in the pouring rain. "Why would we not go?" So out we went. I included pictures of him walking with no umbrella to show he was the ONLY person without an umbrella (there were tons of African immigrants there pushing everyone to buy umbrellas and ponchos so he had access, he just refused). He thinks people who prefer shelter from the elements are big babies- wives and toddlers included (he did allow me the umbrella we brought from Toulouse but I had to argue my case like I was in front of the Supreme Court. Time consumption of hair drying was the key to my winning case). He walked so fast that I had to run behind him on wet marble in my dress booties in the pouring rain with 3 young kids in tow just to see a building that is tipped to one side. That's when I wondered "How did I get to this point in my life where I agreed to any of this?? Why am I a willing participant? Do I have Stockholm Syndrome and like a kidnap victim have turned and sided with my captor?? How does he talk me into things??" I don't know but he always does and I'm always happy I went along (except for Marseille).
Curtis said when he saw the tower in 1999 they had cables on it because it was leaning too much. I guess they fixed it no cables today. Next to the tower was a huge beautiful Cathedral made out of Italian marble, Myer looked at it and shrugged "Eh, that's just a mouse house." He said it in a super condescending voice, too. He wasn't impressed. They charged me $.80 to pee. I wasn't impressed with that (everywhere in Europe does. I don't prefer it).
Next we drove to Cinque Terre (I recognized it from the pretty pictures on Pintrest!) where we will stay for 2 nights. It is 5 tiny, quaint fishing villages in the Italian Riviera that you can't reach by car, built on terraces on cliffs above the Mediterranean. The villages date back to the 1200's. We had to park outside the Cinque Terre and walk to our rental. I don't know how they farm and build up here on these super steep rocky cliffs!
We got here fairly late so we attempted to grab some dinner since we didn't eat out at all yesterday, but the restraunts didn't open til after 8pm (France is like that, too, many restaurants don't open til 8pm) and appeared to be about $40 per plate (ain't no way). They also featured fish with the faces and scales intact (against my meat consumption policy) so we stopped at a grocery store, which was good cause we needed some breakfast for tomorrow anyway (little known fact: I do not like to eat out).
Tomorrow we hope to hike some and check out the playground and walk the villages and see if we can fit in a train ride and whatever else we can find (Curtis has emailed me multiple times about things to do tomorrow as I typed this. God love him). This place is also very touristy and seems to cater to English speakers, just like Florence. All the brochures advertise Italian cooking classes, sea fishing using nets (how fun would that be?), rock climbing, kayaking, wine tasting, mountain biking, etc.
Here's to hoping for no rain tomorrow, since Curtis doesn't believe in rain delays!
